Abstract

La espondilitis anquilosante es una enfermedad reumática crónica incluida dentro del grupo de las espondiloartropatías, caracterizada por la disminución de la flexibilidad y movilidad aunado a la presencia de alteraciones estructurales y funcionales en la columna vertebral, que afectan la calidad de vida de la persona que la padece. La espondilitis anquilosante es común en mujeres y se considera que uno de sus factores desencadenante es el agente infeccioso y la susceptibilidad congénita a desarrollar una espondiloartropatía por la presencia del gen HLAB27, esta enfermedad comienza entre los 16 y 40 años.
