Abstract
Diabetes is a systemic disease is defined as a metabolic syndrome of multiple etiology characterized by chronic hyperglycemia and disorders in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins as a result of a defect in the secretion or action of insulin. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) classifies diabetes as follows: type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes and other less frequent types of diabetes. It is characterized by problems at the level of different organs such as the pancreas, liver, kidneys, heart and oral cavity. Some of the most frequent oral manifestations described in the literature in children and adolescents are: viral and mycotic infections (Candidiasis) ), poor healing of wounds, ulcers, glossitis, periodontal diseases: gingivitis and periodontitis, dental caries and xerostomia, It is necessary that both the clinician and the stomatologist attending these people know and detect these oral changes early, as well as insisting on the importance of the metabolic control of the disease and the preventive aspects.
