Abstract
Rheumatoid arthritis is a systemic disease, with great impact on the musculoskeletal system. The inflammation of the synovium translates into pain, swelling and functional limitation and gives rise, in a progressive way, to structural, partially reducible or irreducible structural deficiencies. Patients with RA have a reduction in joint mobility, muscle strength, endurance and aerobic capacity compared to healthy individuals, which can lead to a limitation in the performance of activities of daily living. Physical therapy helps to minimize the impact of the disease, where specific goals are to relieve pain, prevent or correct deformities, preserve or increase range of motion of joints, increase or maintain muscle strength at functional levels, increase stability articulate and decrease the biomechanical stress in the affected joints
