Abstract
El Síndrome de Distres Respiratorio Agudo ocurre por una lesión de la membrana alveolocapilar que produce un aumento de la permeabilidad vascular pulmonar y la perdida de tejido pulmonar aireado; todo ello ocasiona que los pacientes necesiten de apoyo inmediato en la unidad de cuidados intensivos para garantizar la ventilación y oxigenación de los tejidos. La ventilación mecánica es una herramienta fundamental en el manejo de los pacientes con SDRA, la elección de que sea invasiva o no invasiva va a depender del grado de hipoxemia presente, las complicaciones y la gravedad de la enfermedad. Con los avances recientes en la investigación, diversos estudios clínicos han demostrado la efectividad de nuevos métodos de tratamiento en pacientes con SDRA
