Abstract
In the investigation carried out it was determined the relation between nutrition in children from 2 to 5 years of age in kindergarten 525 “Reyna del Carmen” of Villa Maria del Triunfo and mothers’ knowledge of nutritional. The research corresponds to the Basic, descriptive correlational type, composed of a sample of 224 mothers and their children (224), whose ages were 2 to 5 years of age. The anthropometric measurements of weight and height were taken as part of the evaluation of children’s nutritional status. A knowledge survey on Nutrition was carried out; In addition, it was given an Orientation Talk about how the feeding of the children should be, based on the Food Pyramid designed for that age group. The data was processed with the SPSS statistical software program, version 22 for Windows and the Who Anthro program of the WHO. The results obtained in the investigation were statistically analyzed using the Normality test through the Smirnov Lilliefors Kolmogorov Method and the Spearman Correlation Coefficient test. The nutritional knowledge of mothers was classified as Low (51.8%), because there was a high percentage of mothers with low scores (48.2%). Regarding the nutritional status of children, 62.05% had a normal nutritional status and 37.95% presented Malnutrition. Concerning the weight ratio for body mass size and body mass index no significant relationship was found with the level of knowledge of mothers, in terms of weight for age and size for age if significant relationship was found with the level of knowledge of mothers. It was concluded that the level of nutritional knowledge of mothers and the nutritional status of children 2 to 5 years of age in I.E.I 525 Reyna del Carmen of Villa Maria del Triunfo, were related to a very low positive correlation.
