Abstract
El síndrome de Down es una enfermedad congénita causada por un cromosoma extra en el ADN humano que afecta a más de un cuarto de millón de nacidos vivos a nivel mundial según la organización mundial de la salud. Dentro de sus principales enfermedades asociadas presentes en el síndrome de Down, tenemos las cardiopatías congénitas, alteraciones hematológicas, inmunológicas, endocrinológicas, retraso mental, y las alteraciones dentales, aunque existen muchos estudios basados en la comprensión a esta enfermedad referidos a sus enfermedades asociadas, y sus complicaciones, sin embargo, no existe mucha literatura basada al tratamiento farmacológico medico u odontológico, por tal motivo, el presente trabajo tiene como objetivo el resumen de todos los conceptos básicos de la enfermedad y de sus principales enfermedades asociadas así como también las características de cada una de ellas y de sus recomendaciones farmacológicas a tener en cuenta para el tratamiento adecuado en cada paciente con síndrome de Down. Para ello el presente trabajo de realizo mediante la búsqueda bibliográfica en bases de datos médicas, llegando a la conclusión, que para el tratamiento farmacológico en pacientes con síndrome de Down se debe de conocer todas sus enfermedades asociadas, mencionadas líneas arriba, así como también los riesgos presentes en cada una de ellas.
Down syndrome is a congenital disease caused by an extra chromosome in human DNA that affects more than a quarter of a million live births worldwide according to the world health organization. Among its main associated diseases present in Down syndrome, we have congenital heart diseases, hematological alterations, immunological, endocrinological, mental retardation, and dental alterations, although there are many studies based on the understanding of this disease related to their associated diseases, and its complications, however, there is not much literature based on medical or dental pharmacological treatment, for this reason, this work aims to summarize all the basic concepts of the disease and its main associated diseases as well as the characteristics of each of them and their pharmacological recommendations to be taken into account for the appropriate treatment in each patient with Down syndrome. To this end, the present work is carried out through the bibliographic search in medical databases, reaching the conclusion that for the pharmacological treatment in patients with Down syndrome it is necessary to know all their associated diseases, mentioned above, as well as the risks present in each of them
