Abstract
The area in which the mandible is articulated with the temporal bone of the skull is called the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) which forms, together with the teeth, the bony system, ligaments and muscles part of the stomatognathic system, which allow complex movements, functions such as mastication, lateral movements, protrusion, retrusion of the mandible, also participates in the articulation of words and participates in the balance, is established between the condyle of the mandible, the fossa articular and the articular tubercle or eminence of the temporal bone, to which the articular disc, capsule, synovium and extrinsic and intrinsic ligaments are added
